Entitlement

Gratitude in this world is scarce. Once you start helping someone or show kindness towards someone, they start feeling they're entitled to continue getting the same treatment. You might be doing it out of sheer goodwill but beware the receiver might start feeling they're entitled to it. And once you stop, they might get bitter. Reality is they start justifying it to themselves why they deserve to get all that help. Well, there is no free lunch.

You can see this sense of entitlement in multiple cases, when helping relatives in a tough time, government bailing out banks, extending a hand to friends. Another attitude you'll observe in these cases is that - just because it might look to them that you have excess you SHOULD help them.

Well, what can be done...
